I am so excited about Thanksgiving, I already have my menu written out and planned.  I wanted to share some tips to help you this Thanksgiving.

Start now with prep.  I am not just talking food prep.  Start dusting and decluttering your home.  Will you have indoor and outdoor entertaining?  Start pulling out serving platters and your china. Is your backyard ready for outside entertaining? Take inventory of utensils, disposable containers (to send guests home with food to go), napkins, tablecloths, chairs.  Start picking up non-perishables each week from the grocery store. Pick up drinks ahead of time (bottled water, apple cider, soda, etc.)  Keep a running to-do list on your phone, so you can add and check off things as you think of them.  If you do a little bit every day around the house with Thanksgiving in mind, it will be less stressful.

Don't go overboard.  I tell myself this every year, I am even writing it out as another reminder for myself.  Too often I want to have all the festive appetizers, I want a salad and my favorite fall soup.  Every year, we are so full on appetizers, salad and snacking while we are prepping the main dish and sides that we end up having no room for turkey.  This year I am vowing to cut back on the appetizers and although salad is great, I think I may eliminate it this year, our veggie tray will be our salad substitute.  We eat plenty of salad all year long, I want to save room for Turkey and my favorite sweet potato casserole.

Let others help.  Yes, I am talking about the meal but also about your preparatory tasks.  We always have family and friends over, and they always offer to bring something, let them!  Maybe let your guests handle the desserts or bring drinks.  Ask if they have an appetizer or dip they love to make.  You can also let your the supermarket help!  Lucky Supermarkets have great meat and cheese platters, browse the deli and bakery and see how they can help with your Thanksgiving meal.

If you are hosting Thanksgiving have a family meeting and make a list of what needs to be done around the house, in the yard and delegate.  You want Thanksgiving to be enjoyable not a burden.  It is a time to gather and enjoy one another, celebrating all we have to be thankful for.   Allow others to help you prepare for this joyous day.

If you are not up for cooking this Thanksgiving you can order a complete Holiday Meal, either with a fully cooked ham or fully cooked turkey for only $49.99 visit www.luckysupermarkets.com for more details.

With Thanksgiving being in November, many people during this month share what they are thankful for and participate in 30-Day Thankful challenges.  I love things like this that help stir up an attitude of gratitude.  Back in September, I participated in a thankful challenge and journaled daily five things I was grateful for, it is amazing how an attitude of gratitude can make your day go so much better.  I am grateful for Thanksgiving which gets us all talking about what we are thankful for.

Over the years I have endeavored to do some kind of thankful activity with my children every November.  We have made a tree out of construction paper and hung it on our wall, adding leaves daily of what we were grateful for.
Although this post is after November 1st, if you have not already started a Thankful activity this month, start today!  I find we end up sharing more than one thing we are thankful for each day, that is the thing about thankfulness, it brings about more thankfulness.  Once I get my children talking and thinking about all the blessings and things we have to be grateful for, I usually have to tell them to save some of their thoughts for the next day.

I found this grateful tree at Target and these foam leaves at my local craft store. There are a lot of simple ways to start a daily thankful activity.  I think any thankful activity is important because it is visual and interactive for your children.  With these simple purchases, you don't have to worry about a Pinterest fail.  Pick up some leaves from the craft store, use a punch hole and string to make a thankful banner you can hang across your mantle.
We have made a thankful jar, we wrote what we were thankful for on strips of paper and placed them in a Thanksgiving-themed jar.

We have used craft sticks with thankful prompts and everyone picks a stick during dinner every evening the entire month of November and we share what we are thankful for based on the prompt.  You can download this PDF version to use or copy on craft sticks http://bit.ly/2ANGxML.
We have made Turkey's and wrote on the feathers things we were thankful for.
Last year I used a vase, that had branches and we hung leaf-shaped cutouts on the branches, each day adding what we were grateful for.
This year we are writing on a pumpkin what we are thankful for, I'm sure you have seen this on Pinterest, simple, all you need is a pumpkin real or faux and a sharpie.  There are so many great ideas for thankful activities, you can skip the activity and just every day around the dinner table share what you are thankful for, I just like the idea of an activity because it is a visual reminder.  As your family sees your thankful tree, grateful pumpkin or jar daily, hopefully, it will remind them to be thankful.  I find it changes the conversation throughout our home. I also find what one person is thankful for often spurs on the other people of things to be thankful for.
The method you use is really not the important part, the important part is that you ignite an attitude of gratitude in your home.  I hope my children will remember these activities when they grow up and have families of their own. I hope these thankful activities inspire my children to be thankful not only during Thanksgiving month but all year long.

One of our favorite Thanksgiving traditions is our church hosts an annual Thanksgiving Praise and Pancakes service.  Everyone is welcome, to come and share what they are thankful for.  We start the morning with praise and worship songs, then the microphone is open for anyone to share what they are thankful for.  Both kids and adults get up and share after people share, we enjoy pancakes together.  It is a relaxed family environment, some people come in their pajamas, I love it!  I invite you to join me, it is Thanksgiving morning at 7 AM, so you still have plenty of time, to go back home and prepare for your Thanksgiving meal festivities and watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.  Our Thanksgiving Praise and Pancakes Service is held at Family Community Church, located at 6331 Watt Avenue, North Highlands, CA 95660.
Here is an old blog post I wrote "The Little Things I'm Grateful For" it is not Thanksgiving themed, it is about a time when our water heater went out and a great reminder to be thankful for the little things.  It is so easy to take for granted simple things we use every day like hot water.

Here are some great thankful quotes I love.
It is not happy people who are thankful but thankful people who are happy.

The more you are thankful, the more you attract things to be thankful for.

The root of joy is gratefulness.

When asked if my cup is half full or half empty, my response is I'm thankful I have a cup.

A grateful heart is a magnet for miracles.

What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday?

In all things give thanks. I Thessalonians 5:18

Last night we attended Disney on Ice opening night of "100 Years of Magic" at the Golden 1 Center starring Mickey Mouse and over 50 beloved characters.  I brought my Coco ears from our recent trip to Disneyland, I loved seeing so many others with their Disney ears and little ones in costume.

You can catch the 100 Years of Magic show at the Golden 1 Center all this weekend November 1-4, 2018.  If you are planning on attending the show this Saturday, it is also the opening weekend of the Downtown Ice Rink, you can enjoy a full day of fun downtown when you come to Disney on Ice this time!  Saturday Noon-2 PM the Ice Rink is having a Princess and Superhero party so the kids coming to the 3 PM show could be part of that as well. For more info on the Ice Rink here is the link http://bit.ly/2P1vUyx.

We were treated to preshow fun in honor of Mickey's 90th celebration.  My boys iced and decorated Mickey shaped sugar cookies.  We were also surprised with a special visit from Mickey and Minnie.  We were so excited to have our picture taken with them, it was nice to experience some Disney magic right here in our hometown of Sacramento.
The magic was just getting started....my boys were invited to be part of the show!  They were so excited and so was I.  At the beginning of the show during the Finding Nemo performance they were escorted down to the ice and climbed into a boat, it was such a neat and memorable experience to see them out on the ice.  This will definitely be a night they remember.  Crush the turtle was giant sized and the tiny turtles were absolutely adorable just like in the movie.

The show opens with Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy they also make appearances throughout the show.  You'll see characters from Pinocchio, Nemo, Beauty and the Beast, so many princesses and all your favorites from Frozen.

My favorite part of the show was, of course, my boys being part of the Nemo presentation but a close second was seeing all the princesses and their princes together, we saw Cinderella, Jasmine, Snow White, Tiana, Ariel, Rapunzel, Belle and more.  It was so neat to see so many Disney princesses all at once.

Right after the performances from Disney's Frozen, there was an intermission.  As a mom I greatly appreciate the intermission time which is about 15-20 minutes, great for bathroom breaks, no one misses the show and it is nice to get up and stretch your legs.  At this time we purchased our favorite snow cone treats in character cups.  My boys love these!  Did you know you can purchase an unlimited soda cup at the Golden 1 Center?  For only $10! After a quick intermission, Mickey and his friends introduce Aladdin and the show continues with performances from Toy Story, Mulan, and the Lion King.
Disney on Ice 100 Years of Magic did not disappoint!  It was magical and exciting!  Disney did a great job with set design and costumes, they always do!  The skating and special effects were awesome!  I would highly recommend Disney on Ice for families with children of all ages. My boy's ages are 11, 9, 7 and 3 and they all enjoy it.  There is a great mix between Disney princesses, Toy Story Soldiers, fireworks and pyrotechnics to captivate children of all ages.  The legacy of Disney is displayed through 14 classic and modern stories in this epic production that features an international team of award-winning figure skaters, high-energy choreography and a breathtaking set.  With over 30 melodious masterpieces such as “Let It Go!,” “You’ve Got A Friend in Me” and “Hakuna Matata,” Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic is the ultimate Disney fan experience.

If it is your first time visiting the Golden One Center, I recommend you give yourself plenty of time to arrive and locate parking, especially allocate time for traffic flow.  There are quite a few parking garages to choose from or street parking if available.

You can reserve parking ahead of time with SacPark.org or ParkingPanda.com.  It is super easy, I reserved parking right on my phone, it gave me a QR code to scan.  Most parking garages are a short walk, and there are crowds of people parking and walking with you to and from the Golden One Center.

You can see videos from our visit on my Insta Story on Instagram @blogaboutitall.

Facts & Tips
  • Arrive early! I like to arrive between 6 PM - 6:15 PM (Find parking, Go through Security, Use the Restroom, Purchase Souvenirs).
  • In the middle of the show, there will be an intermission time, great time to use the restrooms.
  • If you are purchasing a snow cone or souvenir from the concession vendors, I recommend, purchasing before the show starts or at the beginning of intermission.  The lines are long if you wait till after the performance, or if you hesitate during intermission.

Disney on Ice 100 Years of Magic Review | Sacramento, CA

  • In the middle of the show, there will be an intermission time, great time to use the restrooms.

How is October almost over?  This year sure is flying by, with the Fall season also comes tailgating season.  The Fall season is chock-full of sports drama, and whether you’re a sideline fan or someone who prefers the comfort of home to the chilly wind that whips through the stadium, one thing is for sure tailgating is no joke.

This post is in collaboration with ProSticks by Expresco to give you tips for the seasons best yet easiest tailgating.  The best tailgates bring both fans and nonchalant spectators together, but the worst tailgates leave everyone tired before the first kickoff. Avoid these common tailgate pitfalls and you’ll be the hero of the day.
Pitfall No. 1: Ignoring the fact that fueling up before the game actually means… fueling up
There are an estimated 50 million Americans who tailgate every year. That’s a lot of hungry fans who need something that’ll keep them going all day long. Although 30 percent of those tailgaters actually leave before the game starts, keeping your tailgaters full and happy is step one in keeping that “Host with the Most” crown sitting high on your head.

Pro Tip: ProSticks are a great “grab-and-go” option as a high protein snack (they have more than 20 grams)! Meanwhile, the typical “jerky-like snack stick” only has 6.1 grams of protein. Whole-muscle chicken that’s minimally processed, all natural and free from preservatives makes them a game changer. Bonus! They’re ready-to-eat so you can focus on giving those other tailgating favorites some of your attention.

Pitfall No. 2: Letting your guests fend for themselves in the chilly air
As that sun goes down, keep your fellow tailgaters happy, chatty and able to enjoy the game without having to worry about getting chilly. Simply bring along a basket of warm throws or blankets. This simple tip will go a long way!

Pitfall No. 3: Making your food a game of its own
Don’t let your guests struggle through full portions of food. Instead, take your handheld game to the next level, and fans on the move will thank you. In fact, single bite desserts, snacks packaged in easy-to-grab brown bags and skewered Prosticks are all great ways to make the most of the walking and talking that happens at a tailgate.

I hope you'll try ProSticks by Expresco I really love them, we have taken them on camping trips, used them for easy entertaining this summer, they are definitely a great grab and go option.
