National Read Across America Day - Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

March 2nd, 2019 is National Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss's Birthday!

Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2—Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books, and you can too!

Check with your local Library for local family events!

Last year I made some fun Dr. Seuss inspired treats for my boys to share with their classmates.  These One Fish, Two Fish themed jello cups are super easy to make.  I am all about simple self-explanatory treats.  All you need is Jello and Swedish Fish candy, you can also top with cool-whip.

I have also in years past surprised my boys with Dr. Seuss inspired treats as an after-school snack.  You can check out those after school snacks here: http://bit.ly/2TUkwTo

This is a fun event to share with your kids' teachers if they do not already celebrate it.  Volunteer to bring in some of these treats and read a Dr. Seuss book to your kids class, I'm sure your teachers and children would love that.

Below are pictures of the treats I made last year for my boys I like to make a week of it. We had Green Eggs and Ham themed pancakes for breakfast the day before.

Pancakes are my boys' favorite things so we had Cat in the Hat Themed Pancakes the morning of and we even splurged with Nutella and Strawberries.  There are a ton of fun ideas on Pinterest.

Below are pictures of more treats I've made for my sons' classes.  Thing One and Thing Two  Inspired mini cupcakes.  I used store-bought frosting that I dyed blue and used store-bought cotton candy for the hair.  You want to put the cotton candy on last, as it sits on the frosting the moisture changes the cotton candy.  I downloaded the Thing One and Thing Two Printable here: http://bit.ly/2T2N93T

Disney on Ice "Dare to Dream" Review | Golden 1 Center, Sacramento, CA

Last night we attended Disney on Ice opening night of "Dare to Dream" at the Golden 1 Center starring Mickey Mouse and brand new to the ice Moana.  You can catch the Dare to Dream show at the Golden 1 Center all this weekend February 14-18, 2019.
Let me get right to it, this show is AWESOME!!! I am thrilled with the changes to the show.  The show opened with some of my favorite songs from Disney-Pixar's Coco and they saved the best for last with the Moana performances and they did a fantastic job!  WOW!!!

They kept our Disney favorites like Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, and Rapunzel, but they changed up the performances so that it seemed brand new.  I loved the Cinderella horse-drawn carriage, the lantern scene from Rapunzel and the acrobatics were amazing.  If you have been to a Disney on Ice show recently, you will be extremely happy with the adaptations.

My favorite part of the show was, of course, Moana and Cocoa.  I was singing along and enjoyed the performances greatly.  In her Disney On Ice debut, see how far Moana will go in a high-seas adventure with demigod Maui, to save her island and discover her true identity. Join Belle as she fearlessly befriends the enchanted castle staff and reveals the Beast’s gentleness.  Experience Anna’s devotion to her sister, Elsa, on her life-changing journey to stop an eternal winter.  Explore with Rapunzel, Flynn Ryder, Cinderella and friends from around the Disney Kingdom as they find the heart and determination to overcome obstacles and make their dreams come true.
Right after the performances from Rapunzel, there was an intermission.  As a mom I greatly appreciate the intermission time which is about 15-20 minutes, great for bathroom breaks, no one misses the show and it is nice to get up and stretch your legs.  With our cotton candy came the cutest Pua hats ever.  Did you know you can purchase an unlimited soda cup at the Golden 1 Center?  For only $10! After a quick intermission, the show continues with performances from Frozen and the BRAND NEW Moana.
Disney on Ice Dare to Dream did not disappoint!  It was magical and exciting!  Disney did a great job with set design and costumes, they always do!  The skating and special effects were awesome!  I would highly recommend Disney on Ice for families with children of all ages. I brought two of my boys, my nephew and two nieces ages 3-11 they all enjoyed it.  There is a great mix between Disney princesses fireworks and pyrotechnics to captivate children of all ages.
As part of the media, we were treated to preshow fun.  I am so grateful for these unique and special opportunities.  They had Polynesian dancers, fun arts and crafts as well as delicious fruit skewers, this all heightened the excitement for the tropical feels of Moana. We also had a special visit from Mickey and Minnie.  We were so excited to have our picture taken with them, it is always nice to experience some Disney magic right here in our hometown of Sacramento.
If it is your first time visiting the Golden One Center, I recommend you give yourself plenty of time to arrive and locate parking, especially allocate time for traffic flow.  There are quite a few parking garages to choose from or street parking if available.

You can reserve parking ahead of time with SacPark.org or ParkingPanda.com.  It is super easy, I reserved parking right on my phone, it gave me a QR code to scan.  Most parking garages are a short walk, and there are crowds of people parking and walking with you to and from the Golden One Center.

You can see videos from our visit on my Insta Story on Instagram @blogaboutitall.

What are your major life goals outside of your career? I want to always be a positive influence on individuals in all aspects of my life, professionally and personally.
Do you have any superstitions or pre-performance rituals?
I always put my skating guards in a very specific location.
What is your favorite memory on or off the ice?
Once upon a time, I fell downstage center in a number I was not usually in because I am a bit short. It was a catwalk number. So I walked down the ice, center, tripped and fell into a puddle... Full audience reaction. It was great.
Is there a particular cause that you support? Why?
I have donated my hair quite a few times to Locks of Love.

Life on the Road
What is the best and worst thing about living on the road?
The best thing about being on the road is all the travel. The worst thing about being on the road is missing family. But also on tour, you build a tour family as well.
While on tour, what is your favorite thing to do during your free time?
I like to read as much as a can.
What are your tips for frequent travelers? Always have a luggage scale.
What item(s) can't you live without on the road?
Hair Straightener.
What have you learned by being on the road?
I have learned how to be very efficient with my luggage and how much I can pack.

Career
What do you enjoy about performing?
I enjoy how there are so many aspects that are involved in a show. The technical, the artistic. There are so many facets that keep a show running smoothly.

I hope that they feel as though I bring that character to life as much as possible and to transport them into another world even for a little bit.

Work hard and always have a humble perspective. There is always so much to learn.

About Me
What age did you begin skating? I began skating at the age of six.
What are some of your industry achievements (competitions/awards/tests)?
I've passed through the highest (Senior level) Moves in the Field and Freestyle tests, and competed on the national and international level.
What are some of your interests/hobbies/favorite pastimes? I greatly enjoy drawing, painting, reading, traveling, and cooking.
Who are your role models? My mother and my grandfather.
What has been your toughest challenge during your performance career?
The welcomed challenge of stepping out of my comfort zone and exploring new movements and/ or characters. Also, being away from family and loved ones for an extended amount of time can be challenging.
What are your major life goals outside of your career?
I've always loved writing so perhaps finishing a Writing or English Master’s degree. And to start or work with a nonprofit organization that is geared towards helping abused women and children.
What's something a lot of people don't know about you? There's a part of me that's still a bit afraid of the dark.
What is your favorite memory on or off the ice?
Perhaps not a specific memory, but the moments in a show when everyone is in that "flow" or "zone" together, feeding off of each other and everything melds seamlessly together.
If you could be a professional athlete in any other sport, what would it be and why?
I would be a gymnast. I love the combination of strength, seamless movements, and athleticism.

Life on the Road
What is the best and worst thing about living on the road?
I love traveling to new places, exploring, and making lifelong friends. On the downside, sometimes it's hard to be away from family and loved ones. For example, I began performing in ice shows right after my brother was born in 2008 so I missed a lot of him as a baby and toddler, and even now during his elementary school years.

Broadway on Tour - STOMP (February 1-10, 2019) | Sacramento, CA

On Friday evening (February 1st) my Husband and I found ourselves in Downtown Sacramento for a nostalgic experience. It was a windy and rainy night which could have dampened an average night. This, however, was no average night. The aforementioned "Nostalgic Experience"  refers to 2003, which is when we were able to enjoy STOMP in Manhattan as part of our honeymoon. STOMP has always been a favorite memory from that trip. Fast-forward more than 15 years and here we are again.  The fact that Stomp has been going for 25 years speaks for itself.  I love this photo backdrop with props they had in the lobby, be sure to snap a fun photo before or after the show.
If you are not familiar with STOMP it might be a difficult task for me to provide a proper explanation so I will let this excerpt from their website (www.stomponline.com) do it for me "Matchboxes, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters and more fill the stage with energizing beats at STOMP, the inventive and invigorating stage show that's dance, music, and theatrical performance blended together in one electrifying rhythm".
If this sounds loud, exciting, and unique you are correct. But don't think rock concert level of volume. The sounds build and draw you into the performance and add a level of emotion to the spectacle similar to a symphony or traditional musical performance.
STOMP would have my recommendation for kids 10 and up or maybe even younger if they are particularly interested in or participate in, dance, theater, or music. One item of note is that STOMP is presented without intermission so a squirmy child or those little ones with minimal attention spans might not be ready for this nearly 2-hour event.
The incorporation of physical comedy was something that I had forgotten over the years. The light-hearted elements from the performers are sure to get a laugh or two even from the harshest of critics. In addition to the comedic side of the show, there is also dancing of various styles, and circus level tricks with their props.

We were invited by Julie Gallaher from Get on the Map, and SacramentoTop10 she created the #instayelpatweetasnap community if you are a local Influencer I encourage you to check out her site, sign up and get invited to fun events like these.  I am so grateful for blogger events like these and even more so when my husband is able to attend with me.  Here is the link: https://getonthemap.us/instayelpatweetasnap. Our group met along with other influencers from
TheBlogBloc I was grateful to meet the beautiful and friendly Kachet I've followed her beautiful Instagram for a while.  We gathered at Downtown and Vine before the show for drinks and appetizers.  There are a ton of great restaurants downtown to choose from, Downtown and Vine is beautiful and near the theater right on K Street.  You can also use your Broadway ticket and receive a discount at participating restaurants, to find participating restaurants click here http://bit.ly/2Rth6ZR.

Find the best event parking in Sacramento by booking a parking spot in advance with SacPark. You will have the ability to reserve your spot ahead of time at any City-owned garage or Certified Partner parking facility. I parked at the Capitol Garage at 1133 10th Street and I thought it was a great spot, not too far to the Theater.

Attending Broadway on Tour makes a great date night or friends night out! This Stomp show is super family friendly again I would highly recommend taking your children especially if they have a love for music, theater, and dance. Last season my sister, mom and I attended Bodyguard here at the Sacramento Community Center Theater and I recently attended Waitress as well. I have always had a wonderful time at Broadway. I would love to catch the upcoming Disney's Aladdin. I would love to hear from you have you attended Broadway on Tour?  Which show? Which one are you most looking forward to attending?
