I recently visited the Sacramento Zoo with my two older boys
on a school field trip and we had a great time.
I have visited the Sacramento Zoo many times, and try to go once a
year. If you have not recently attended
they have made some new additions! One
of my favorite new additions is the Stage Show with Animal Talks! They display different animals, share fun
facts and information about the animals and allow you to touch some of the
animals. At one point during the show they
invited someone from the audience up on stage to participate in some fun
interaction that had the entire audience giggling.
Another neat experience was near the giraffe exhibit, you
can see into the Veterinary Hospital, you can watch through the windows and a TV screen the veterinarians treat the animals. We witnessed a check up on an animal, the veterinarian
explained what they were doing and it was very interesting and informative, the
kids loved it.
We also were able to see the new lion cubs they were about
20 weeks old at our visit, and were adorable. There are over 400 exotic animals on 14 acres. See red pandas, snow leopards, orangutans, lemurs, anteaters and more. Another favorite of my sons is the in door reptile house which is a nice place to beat the heat if you visit during the summer.
The Sacramento Zoo is open 363 days a year, you can visit
their website for up to date information at www.saczoo.org. Typical hours are 9 AM to 5 PM daily.

typically in February they have a half price admission day, stay tuned to their
website and social media sites for special events and discounts.
Groupon – Groupon
is another place I have seen discounted admission to the Sacramento Zoo, and
even combination tickets with Fairytale Town.
You can visit their site for deals at www.Groupon.com

Entertainment Book
– Another great way to save is with an Entertainment Coupon Book! I love purchasing an Entertainment book each
year, there are a ton of coupons not only for the Zoo and local attractions,
but restaurants and local retail services.
Each year there is usually a coupon for the zoo for Buy One Admission
Get One Free. A side note this is a
great way to save money for date nights!
My husband and I love to try new places and save money while doing so,
we often use a coupon from our Entertainment book for our date night or trying
a new dessert place. You can purchase a
book on their site at www.entertainment.com.
Additional
Experiences at the Zoo:
A quarter from each experience is donated to wildlife
conservation!

electric powered train runs in good weather for $4.00 per person and includes
zoo information as you enjoy your ride.
Conservation Carousel:
This handcrafted wooden carousel features 32 lifelike animals for $2.50 per
person.
Giraffe Encounters:
Get up-close-and-personal with the giraffes and feed them a leafy treat for
$3.00 per person. Find out more at the Giraffe Encounter webpage. Encounter
times vary seasonally.
I encourage you if you have never visited to plan a visit,
and if it has been a while since your last visit, this would be a fun
experience the entire family would enjoy.
There are plenty of picnic tables located in the zoo. You can pack a lunch and eat while at the
zoo, you can enjoy the Zoo Café, or have a picnic lunch right across the street
from the zoo at the park and feed the ducks in the pond.
If you plan a visit this summer, I recommend going early in
the morning while it is still cool out and if you can go during the week
instead of the weekend you can beat the crowds.
