I am so excited about Thanksgiving, I already have my menu written out and planned. I wanted to share some tips to help you this Thanksgiving.
Start now with prep. I am not just talking food prep. Start dusting and decluttering your home. Will you have indoor and outdoor entertaining? Start pulling out serving platters and your china. Is your backyard ready for outside entertaining? Take inventory of utensils, disposable containers (to send guests home with food to go), napkins, tablecloths, chairs. Start picking up non-perishables each week from the grocery store. Pick up drinks ahead of time (bottled water, apple cider, soda, etc.) Keep a running to-do list on your phone, so you can add and check off things as you think of them. If you do a little bit every day around the house with Thanksgiving in mind, it will be less stressful.
Don't go overboard. I tell myself this every year, I am even writing it out as another reminder for myself. Too often I want to have all the festive appetizers, I want a salad and my favorite fall soup. Every year, we are so full on appetizers, salad and snacking while we are prepping the main dish and sides that we end up having no room for turkey. This year I am vowing to cut back on the appetizers and although salad is great, I think I may eliminate it this year, our veggie tray will be our salad substitute. We eat plenty of salad all year long, I want to save room for Turkey and my favorite sweet potato casserole.
Let others help. Yes, I am talking about the meal but also about your preparatory tasks. We always have family and friends over, and they always offer to bring something, let them! Maybe let your guests handle the desserts or bring drinks. Ask if they have an appetizer or dip they love to make. You can also let your the supermarket help! Lucky Supermarkets have great meat and cheese platters, browse the deli and bakery and see how they can help with your Thanksgiving meal.
If you are hosting Thanksgiving have a family meeting and make a list of what needs to be done around the house, in the yard and delegate. You want Thanksgiving to be enjoyable not a burden. It is a time to gather and enjoy one another, celebrating all we have to be thankful for. Allow others to help you prepare for this joyous day.
If you are not up for cooking this Thanksgiving you can order a complete Holiday Meal, either with a fully cooked ham or fully cooked turkey for only $49.99 visit www.luckysupermarkets.com for more details.
