The California State Fair opens THIS Friday, July 17, 2026. The Fair will be open through Sunday, August 2, 2026! We love enjoying the California State Fair. The food, the exhibits, the animals its an annual tradition for our family. Something NEW this year is the hours, Monday through Thursday, the Fair will open at 4 PM through 11 PM, and then Friday through Sunday, the hours are 10 AM to 11 PM. I love sharing ways you can save and enjoy the Fair with your family. Be sure to follow me over on social media to see more of that. You can save a little by purchasing your tickets in advance, so get them now.  Advance tickets are $16, at the gate they are $18. Kids ages 4 and under are free, kids ages 5-12 are $10 in advance or $12 at the gate, and seniors are $12 and $14 at the gate.

You can find discounted tickets at your local SaveMart, and Costco also has a deal but I believe the Costco deal is only available before the fair opens.

If you love the rides you can save with a POP wristband they are $45 Monday through Thursday and $50 Friday-Sunday. 

There are a ton of events and special days you can read more about that here. Some of our favorite days: The Viva El Mariachi Youth Competition, on the PG&E Center stage on Sunday, July 26th. Poppy's Birthday, celebrate Tuesday, July 28th 4:30-5:30 on the I Can go to College Promenade Stage. Military, Veterans and First Responders Appreciation Day will be Wednesday, July 29th, active duty, reserve and veteran personnel from all branches of the military as well as active members of law enforcement, firefighters and first responder units to enjoy FREE Fair admission. Active duty military spouses and dependents are also included in FREE admission on this special day.

If you love the concerts, you can read more about that here. All Toyota Concert Series on the Sky River Casino Stage shows are FREE with a California State Fair admission ticket. Fair-goers are welcome to line up at the back of the Main Stage venue starting at 5 pm for first-come, first-served seating in the FREE area behind the General Admission seating area. Please note that the free seating area is limited to the first 700 guests.

The State Fair does have a clear bag policy, must be clear on up to 12x12x12 size. Coolers are allowed but must be attached to a wagon. You can bring in food and water bottles, water bottles must be sealed, no glass, no metal water bottles, no Hydro Flasks. Parking is $15.

Family Discount Days will be on Mondays, July 14th and July 21st. Make Mondays with Family Discount Day! Each Monday during the Fair, from 4 PM to 6 PM, admission is just $2 per person, making it easier than ever to bring the whole family out for an evening of fun.

On Tuesdays, July 15th and July 22nd, kids 12 and under are free. 

You can also save at the Fair by going on SMUD Giving Fridays, July 11, 18, and 25th. Get into the California State Fair for FREE with SMUD Giving Friday! From 10 AM to 2 PM, bring five or more non-expired, non-perishable food items per person to support Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. In return, you’ll receive a same-day admission ticket, courtesy of SMUD—just be sure to use it by 3 PM.

For kids in grades TK through 8th grade you can participate the the read to ride program. For every two books you read, receive two (2) rides and one (1) monorail ticket for FREE at the California State Fair! A $15.00 value.Students must read two books, write a summary, then bring the completed form to the California State Fair Guest Services office (located inside the Main Gate) to receive two free rides and one monorail ticket. Read to Ride redemption valid any day of the Fair. If you or someone you know loves Monster Trucks, you want to visit on Sunday, July 13th. There is an additional ticket fee of $14 for this event and two showtimes 3 PM and 7 PM. Feel the roar and thrill at the Monster Truck Show! Watch giant trucks crush cars, fly through the air, and battle it out in jaw-dropping stunts. Fun for all ages - don’t miss the action, get your tickets now! Click here to purchase Monster Truck Tickets!

A family favorite for us is Viva La Mariachi Day, which will be Sunday, July 20th. The California State Fair seeks to continue that legacy by highlighting the contributions of groups and individuals who have helped shape the heritage of California. Celebrate the rich tradition of mariachi music that has helped weave the social and cultural tapestry of California. Come experience the music, culture, and vibrant spirit at Viva El Mariachi.

If you want to catch some of your favorite artists at the California State Fair, you can find all the details on the Concert series here. The Toyota Concert series is free with State Fair Admission, you can line up at the back of the stage venue starting at 5 PM, those are first served seats in the general admission area. Free seats are limited to the first 700 guests. There are paid seats available starting at $40. Don't wait to get your tickets, Ludacris is already sold out. 

Things to know before you visit the California State Fair. They have a clear bag policy and no bags larger than 12"x12"x2". Coolers are allowed but must be attached to a wagon. You can bring in outside food, coolers are subject to search just like bags. You can bring in sealed plastic water bottles but no glass, aluminum or hydro flasks, no metal water bottles. There is also an unaccompanied minors policy. All minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult 21 and older. 

There will be fireworks on Fridays and Saturdays at 10 PM.

Advanced Tickets online are $16 for adults, $10 for kids ages 5-12, and advanced senior tickets 62 years and older are $12.These prices include all fees and taxes. 

Parking for one day is $17, and for a three-day parking pass it is $33. Please note that the parking lot closes at 7 PM, no entrance will be allowed after 7 PM.

What are you shopping for during the Amazon Prime Day Deals 2024? I am an Amazon Affiliate, I do earn a small commission when you shop from my Amazon Storefront. This year's Prime Day Deals are Tuesday, July 16, and Wednesday, July 17, 2024. We are very practical when it comes to Amazon Prime Day Deals, in the past we have purchased technology-related items we had been needing but mostly we get household basics.  

While it can be easy to get caught up in a sale, or deals you see content creators like myself share on social media. Be sure not to get scammed, Amazon is known for hiking up their prices on the days leading up to Prime Day, just to make it look like you are getting a deal. There are some good deals out there, but just be sure to do your research and be a smart shopper. 

If you have never used CamelCamelCamel, it is a website where you can check an Amazon Product and see what has been the lowest price. That is a game changer to be able to check the price history to be sure it really is a good deal.

As a budget-minded, frugal shopper, that is one of the main reasons I love TikTok Shop, it gives me another place to cross-check prices and truly look for the best deal. 

I have to be honest, I have not been that impressed with the Amazon Prime Day Deals in the past few years. My favorite place to shop right now is TikTok Shop. I find a ton more deals over on TikTok lately than over on Amazon. TikTok Shop has just finished their Deals For You Days, so if you missed out on any of those products you had your eye on, now would be a good time to check and see if they are part of the Prime Day Deals on Amazon. 

I know not everyone has TikTok and some of you may have never purchased anything on TikTok. Go check out my TikTok page I only share things we love and use. You can find me on TikTok @BlogAboutItAll. Similar to an Amazon Storefront Page, TikTok has what is called Showcase. When you go to my profile you can find my TikTok favorites on my Showcase right on my profile page. 

I find it much easier to shop on TikTok Shop because when you see a content creator sharing a video, sharing a product, the link is directly there at the bottom of the video in a little orange shopping cart. There is no going to someone's Amazon Storefront and trying to find the product. TikTok Shop is very convenient.

The California State Fair is here at the Cal Expo State Fair Grounds through Sunday, July 28th, 2024. Our family loves visiting the California State Fair annually. My favorite things are of course the food and the indoor exhibits because it is hot here in Northern California. Taking in the exhibits in the air-conditioned buildings is a great way to cool off and take a little break from the heat.

There is so much great entertainment and performers at the California State Fair, for a full list of the entertainment and performers click here. 

Rustic Charm Marketplace is a NEW exhibit in Building 1, I loved it. If you love to shop and support local there are so many local crafters and things like local honey, BBQ sauces, and more. 

Animation Academy is a NEW exhibit in Building 4 and our family loved it. They have hands-on things to do while learning about how animation is made. You also get a blast from the past of some of our favorite Saturday cartoon favorites. You can create your own stop-motion animated short and so much more. 

Know before you go there is a clear bag policy, no bags larger than 12"x12"x2" are allowed.

You can bring outside food and drinks, just no glass, or aluminum cans, no hydro flasks, metal water bottles, or outside alcohol is allowed.

Poppy's birthday celebration will be on Tuesday, July 23rd, which is always a fun day to take the kids. Celebrate another year of life and joy with your favorite golden bear, Poppy, born on August 16, 1996! Fairgoers of all ages are invited to enjoy music, live entertainment, free Tootsie Pops provided by Save Mart, and lots of fun with Poppy and other mascot friends. Don’t miss the California State Fair’s biggest birthday bash from 11 am to 11:30 am on the PG&E Center Stage!

Here are some tips to help you enjoy your visit.

Freeze Water Bottles, make sure they are sealed. 

Take a handheld fan, one of those mist ones is the best. 

Get there early, spend a few hours, and then head home for a break and return in the evening hours when it is cooler. 

A great place to cool off is at the Bonney Cooling Stations, they have shade, chairs and large fans to help cool you off. There are four stations, at the main entrance next to the old Raging Waters. Behind Building 6 near Heart Health Park. In the Spa Area in front of Building A and West of the Rodeo Arena.

When you need a place to cool off, head to the exhibit buildings, we loved the NEW Animation Academy Exhibit. My kids could spend a long time in there exploring and enjoying the hands-on activities.

Know the special deal days, like SMUD Giving Monday, Tuesday $2 Ride Day, Taste of the Fair Days (Wednesday & Thursday), and Senior Savings Fridays. You can find more details about all of these deal days right here.
