We spend a lot of time swimming during the summer.  We frequent our local swim park Raging Waters, we frequent the lake, beach and although we don’t have a swimming pool in our backyard we have friends and family that do.  I thought I’d share my swimming essentials.
Sun Screen – Sunscreen is a MUST, even if you are only planning on being outside for a little while.  Sunburn is never fun, especially when it comes to your little ones.  And it’s not only for protection against sunburn but for our long-term skin care.  Remember to reapply throughout the day.  It is recommended to reapply every two hours.  Also, try to apply before you go outdoors.  I always try to apply my boys' sunscreen while we are still at home before we even get to the water park or beach.  I find it’s easier to apply at home because once they are near the water they want to go, they are not interested in waiting for mom to apply sunscreen.
Look for coupons and when it’s on sale stock up.  Keep some in the car, in the swim bag, and at home, so you are sure not to forget to bring it.

Lifejackets – Invest in a good lifejacket, they will last and are worth the investment. Check the manufacturers' label to make sure it is intended for your child’s size and weight.  Make sure it is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard.  Know there are different life jackets for different water activities. Remember that although life jackets are important, adult supervision is still required.  Remember even if your children know how to swim; when it comes to rivers, lakes and the beach, life jackets are a must.  Many lakes, rivers, and beaches provide free life jackets. Even at our local water park, in what they call the wave pool all children under 48” are required to wear a life jacket.  I know my sons have not always been happy about this since they know how to swim, but I remind them it is for their safety.
Goggles – I highly recommend goggles especially when swimming in public swimming pools and water parks.  With the chlorine in the water, I’ve watched my boys’ eyes become extremely red when swimming without goggles.  Look up your local swimming pool or water parks policy though, our local swim park does not allow the goggles that cover the nose; you can only bring in the basic eye goggles.

Beach Toys – Sand and beach toys are not very expensive and yet provide hours and hours of entertainment.  I use a sharpie and write our name on our toys because there are always similar toys at the beach, this helps when it is time to clean-up.  Use a mesh laundry bag to carry them so you can shake off as much excess sand as possible.  Some of my other favorite swim toys: pool noodles, diving rings/sticks, squirter toys.
Baby powder for sand removal. – This hack really does work, I love it!  If you are at the beach or lake, sand gets everywhere.  Sprinkling on baby powder helps clean off the sand gently and quickly.  The more sand I can leave sand at the beach and not carry it home in my car and to my house is greatly appreciated.

Swimming Lessons I know swimming lessons can be expensive especially when you have multiple children.  They are worth the investment in my opinion.  Budget and plan for swimming lessons, if you can’t do it this year, save NOW for next year.  Look around and find a deal, I have even seen free swim lessons provided by local community groups, it may take a little research and time but it is well worth it.  I have put my boys in swimming lessons multiple times even though they know how to swim I continue to take them, they have different levels available through our local parks and recreation department.  I feel it reminds them of proper technique, water safety, and it gives me peace of mind.
Waterproof phone case – I killed a phone last year with pool water damage.  I know I love to take a lot of pictures near the water and you know when kids are involved there is also splashing involved.  A waterproof pouch or phone case is an essential and again worth the investment when you think about the cost of replacing a phone.

Swim shoes, hats and chapstick are some of my other essentials. I’d love to hear what essentials you keep in your swim bag share in the comment section below.

I were gifted two tickets from the Macaroni Kid website to attend one of the Summer Concert Series at the Platinum Living Amphitheater at Quarry Park Adventures in Rocklin this past weekend.  It was for the June 16th Jimmy Buffet Tribute Concert.  I love local sites like Macaroni Kid, not only do they have great giveaways they are a great resource to know about local events and fun things to do with your family, be sure to subscribe to their newsletter to be the first to hear about local fun.

I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of the Quarry Park Adventures, from the moment I heard about the place it sounded AMAZING!  I am happy I was able to walk around and check it out in attending the Summer Concert Series.

I'm sure you have seen them in the news in regards to their delayed opening.  I come from a family who has worked in many aspects of the construction field and have worked with my father-in-law in his roofing company so I totally understand.  Sometimes you cannot anticipate the costs when it comes to building or starting a business, there are always extra expenses.  From my understanding contractors encountered more and denser rock than anticipated in preparing the site which has driven up the costs. I understand they are working closely with the city of Rocklin in approving more funding for the project.  They are hoping to open by the end of August.

The delayed opening does not affect the Summer Concert Series which is held at the Platinum Living Amphitheater at Quarry Park. They have cement block seating areas, benches as well as plenty of grassy areas to bring a blanket or your own folding chairs.

You can find out about upcoming events and purchase tickets for the next concert series on their website at https://quarrypark.com/

There were a variety of merchants from selling snow cones as well as companies giving free things away like Safe Credit Union, Pepsi, ABC 10 News had a green screen where you take a free photo and so many more.

They also had a variety of food for sale like a Cheeseburger with Chips for $10, Grilled Morrel Hotdogs for $4, Beef/Chicken Street Tacos 3/$10 and Loaded Cheesy Nachos for $6 which were amazing.

There were 2 other performers Rachel Steele and another before the Jimmy Buffet Tribute band came up.  I enjoyed every one.  The Grant Union Highschool drum-line director James Van Buren was there with the band and they did a performance that was amazing.  They were raising funds to go to Africa to represent the United States of America. They have been featured on ABC News with Robin Roberts which helped them perform in Washington D.C.

There is a playground for the kids to play on and trails you can walk around.  My husband and I attended kid free this time, we enjoyed the music, sites, and people watching.  We enjoyed our evening and would love to go back. If you are looking for a date night idea, I recommend the summer concert series.  It is also a fun way to let the kids play outside while you enjoy the music and summer evening weather.

Quarry Park is a great gathering place with a picturesque setting for community events, concerts, quiet walks through nature, and active play. Quarry Park is home to an adventure park, amphitheater, trails, open space, and wildlife.  It is located at 4060 Rocklin Road.

There are paddle boats out there and there will be Zip Lining, Rock Climbing, and so much more.  There are plans for restaurants and something for all ages, experience levels and interests. I hope you will attend some of the Summer Concert Series and other events out there and help bring in revenue to complete this project.  When our local establishments thrive it helps our community and surrounding areas.  Sacramento needs a place like this nearby.  I sure am excited about this venue for a variety of entertainment.  I am happy to help cheer them on and eagerly awaiting their grand opening!

I was invited to the opening night of Mary Poppins presented by the Fair Oaks Theatre Festival this past week.  This was the first time I attended a show at the Veteran's Memorial Amphitheatre.  We were pleasantly greeted by chickens, which I loved.  It felt like you were stepping out of the city and into a hidden gem.  My husband and I made it a date night which was fun to do something different.  A play is a great way to enjoy a night out together.
The theatre is outdoors under the stars which makes for a great date night or family adventure.  There were many couples and families in attendance.  All the kids I saw were captivated by it all, I would love to go back with my entire family.

Mary Poppins will run Friday, Saturday and Sunday from June 15th through August 5th, 2018 at 8 PM.  Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.  Students and Seniors 60+ are $15. The play is held at Veteran's Memorial Amphitheatre located at 7991 California Avenue, Fair Oaks.

The entire cast was great.  It always amazes me how these young children get so into character, the kids who played Jane and Michael Banks were absolutely adorable. Katie Veale who plays Mary Poppins fit the part perfectly.  Mary Poppins arrives on the Banks family doorstep and using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members to value each other again.  She takes the children on magical adventures and has a profound effect on the children and the grown-ups.

They sang all my favorite songs from the classic Disney film.  "A Spoonful of Sugar", "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious", "Chim Chim Cher-ee", "Practically Perfect" and many more.  Michael Coleman the director did a fabulous job. The play lasted a little over 2 hours with a 15-minute intermission.

They had a snack bar that sold popcorn for only $1 and a variety of snack items and drinks. They also rented out seat cushions for $0.50 which I appreciated and recommend. We attended the opening night reception and were treated with ice cream, cookies, sparkling apple cider and champagne before the show.
You can win a Supercalifragilistic Day at Disneyland for yourself and four others for ONLY $10!  The Fair Oaks Theatre Festival is raffling off Five 1 Day Park Hopper Tickets and a Disney gift basket for $10 a ticket! Come to see Mary Poppins between June 15 and Aug 5 to purchase tickets!  The drawing will take place on Sunday, August 5, 2018. Need not be present to win.

Gift Basket Contains:
50th Anniversary Mary Poppins DVD, Mickey Mouse Backpack, 7" Mickey and Minnie figures, 'Hidden Mickeys' Book, Pressed coin holder, Autograph Book, St Pat's Mikey Plush, E-Ticket Keychain, Wind-up Groot & Rocket Pez Dispenser, I’m Celebrating Buttons, Five 1-Day Park Hopper Tickets Value: $735-$925 -depending on date of use. Valid at the Disneyland Resort, Anaheim.
Tickets expire 4/25/2020. Tickets cannot be used from December 25-31. Replacement cannot be provided for lost or expired tickets. May not be sold or exchanged for anything of value. Can not be upgraded or applied toward a package to meet eligibility requirements.
Tips:
Bring a jacket or small blanket.  Although it was a warm summer night, it sure did cool down quickly and I was chilly.

The theatre has bench seating you can rent a cushion or bring your own.  I saw many who brought a pillow, that is a great idea.

No outside food or drinks are allowed. There are restaurants nearby, we went to Carmelita's Mexican restaurant which is around the corner and there is Fair Oaks Brew Pub right across the street.
