We recently took a week-long family vacation to Southern California.  We knew we were going to visit the Disneyland Parks and definitely spend some time at the beach but we knew we needed some other entertainment for a couple of the other nights.  When we travel with our kids, we usually keep our meals simple, not too adventurous, eating at places where we know our kids will eat the food.  Last time we were in Southern California we tried the Pirate Dinner Adventure and we loved it!!!  We knew we had to go back again.
Pirate Dinner Adventure is a unique dinner theater experience!  Not just any dinner show, it is very interactive especially if you have children.  There is smoke, fire and in the air acrobatics involved.  The first time we attended, our boys were selected to ride in the rowboats and participate in a part of the show.  They were able to go on deck of the giant indoor pirate ship with other children.  They had so much fun.  I was thinking that it would be the same thing on this visit.  While it was similar, I love that it was a little different.  It’s definitely worth returning for.  During this visit our boys were asked if they would like to help fire the cannon, they were outfitted with costumes and all. You can see pictures of them in their costumes at the end of this post.

When you first arrive you will visit the check-in window to receive your seat assignments.  Check-in starts 90 minutes ahead of time Monday-Friday.  We received flags, necklaces and pirate themed bandanas to wear in the orange color, indicating we would be cheering on the orange pirate.

As you proceed towards the entrance there is a photo opportunity.  Their photographer will snap a family portrait, later in the evening they will bring that photo over to you available to purchase for $20.  You receive an 8x10 as well as three other smaller photo keepsakes.

When you enter the Pirate Dinner Adventure building, there is a shop with lots of pirate themed items.  You want to arrive early because there is a pre-dinner mini show and yummy finger foods to enjoy.  They have a veggie station set-up, with carrots, celery, broccoli, and ranch dip.  You can snack while you wait for the show to start.  They have staff that walks around with trays of finger food items, like meatballs, deep fried macaroni and cheese balls, chicken salad. Everything was tasty and this helps keep your little ones busy while waiting for the show to begin.

There is a waiting room area with some tables and chairs along the wall.  Some people stand and mingle.  There is a bar area, you can order drinks for an additional charge, soda, and iced water are included with your meal.  There is a mini show that introduces you to the storyline and each of the pirates.  As they introduce the pirates, they dismiss that team to follow the pirate you are rooting for out of the room into the main theatre.

The pirate ship in the main room is very impressive.  They make announcements before the show that there will be flashes of lights and loud sounds that may be frightening to little ones.  My little guy who is three had just woken from a nap on the drive to the Pirate Dinner Adventure and he was a little hesitant to the show when we first arrived.  Mostly because he had just woken up in this dark new place.  Once, they brought dinner out and the real show started he was fine and joined in on all the cheering.  They do a really great job of making it fun and interactive.  Our orange pirate came over and greeted our area, and encouraged us to stand, cheer and wave our flags.

Our waiter came over and took our drink orders, included with your meal is water, Pepsi Products, coffee, tea, and lemonade.  Everyone receives the same meal, so there is no menu so to speak.  They ask if anyone has any food allergies before serving food, we do not so I am not sure what they offer if you say yes.  I do know they have a Vegan Meal, Vegetarian Meal, and Gluten-Free Meal option.   They also ask if you would like soup or salad.  The soup is delicious, my boys who are picky eaters and don’t ever eat soup, ate the soup here.  I think it is a combination of the food is good and also they are distracted by the show, they just eat and enjoy the ambiance.
The kids' plates had chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and a fruit.  My boys loved everything on their plate.  I took pictures but it is dark and I didn’t want to be distracting with flash, so forgive my dark pictures but they will give you an idea of the food.  The adult plates were roasted quarter chicken leg and thigh, shrimp skewer, mashed potatoes, and veggies.

The waiter will come by and refill your beverages throughout the show and ask if you need anything.  They also serve dessert towards the end of the show.  They served a delicious tres leches cake drizzled with chocolate.
After the show the pirates and many of the actors walk around, we always ask for a picture and they are happy to snap a picture with us.

If you live in Southern California and have not attended Pirate Dinner Adventure I highly recommend it.  Even though this post was in collaboration with them and we received complimentary tickets for this review we have purchased tickets and attended before.  This would make a great date night, family outing, or group outing of any kind.

If you are visiting Southern California to visit Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Legoland, or Universal Studios, I highly recommend planning an evening dinner at Pirates Dinner Adventure.  Now attending twice I would definitely visit again.  It is a fun way to enjoy dinner and be entertained.  Tickets are reasonably priced, they often have Groupon deals as well. You can sign up for special offers on their website at https://piratesdinneradventureca.com/.
Their on-going show is called “Legend of the Loch Ness Monster”.  They have a Halloween show that starts around the beginning of October and runs the entire month.  They also have a “Pirates Take Christmas” show from December 1st through December 25th.

You can upgrade your adventure, they also have celebration upgrades, anniversary packages, birthday packages and more.
